Ooh Mila Kunis for a live action San, interesting choice! We just shot a concept trailer for a live action Princess Mononoke and were lucky to meet an awesome Japanese actress & studio ghibli fan to play the lead.
I don't think that anime characters look white. I believe that it IS the intention of anime creators to make asian characters. If you'd like to read up on the topic, this [link] was very helpful to me personally.
I think it would have been more appropriate for the artist to use an asian model, considering that the character is from an asian film, set in a pseudo-asian fantasy country, and has an asian name.
The Japanese blatantly whitwash their own anime. They intend to create a character that does not look Asain, but yet it turns out looking like a white person. This character is from an anime, not a live action movie. Try taking a look at the character first before judging.
